Date:

Friday night lights finally began last week as Southwind versus Ridgeway kicked off our game of the week. The first thing we learned is that Sophomore Quarterback Kelvin Perkins is the real deal. Perkins displayed an ability to throw downfield for big plays and also ran the ball like a dual-threat quarterback.

Number Five was all the way live as he led his team to a (42-0) win over the Roadrunners. Perkins was  19 for 25 313 passing for 4 touchdowns 4 carries for 72  yards and rushed for 1 touchdown. Not only was he great but his teammates were making noise as well as

The following day we also got to see East versus Melrose which has become a big rivalry for both programs. After each game between them, the winner is awarded the Soul Bowl trophy. Melrose Goldenwildcats are very talented on the offensive side. They have a returning Quarterback in Sadat Muhammad who threw 4 touchdown passes.Melrose dedicated the game to their former Principal Lavaughn Bridges wrecently passed away.

Melrose won the game (41-6) not only was Muhammad good. His running back Ryan Brown didn’t disappoint. The 5-foot-9 running back was all over the field. You name it he will be in the backfield or line up as a receiver.

The Melrose game was also a debut for transfers that are going to be key pieces for the Wildcats. William Carver a Whitehaven transfer will play many positions for Melrose. You can catch him playing Wide receiver, Running back, Quarterback. Carver has intangibles and speed that you have to utilize. The 5-foot-10 playmaker scored two touchdowns. Memphis High School football is very competitive this year, and we will be right there in the mix catching the action as the season goes on. Southwind and Melrose will face each other in week 6 September 21st.
It will be a great game Mark that down on your calendars.
